About the town

A beautiful, 2-km long beach, the cultivated valley pressed as a stage against the bay by the encircling mountains and the rich heritage - Baska is a place particularly attractive to tourists...

The beginnings of tourism in Baska date back to 1904, when the Society for the Beautification of the Town was founded. Shortly afterwards, the first hotel, Hotel Tomislav was opened (1906), as well as the first public beach (1908). In 1911, the Czech E. Geistlich built a modern hotel, Hotel Baska, in which he accommodated Czech tourists. Between the two world wars numerous houses and villas were built, enabling Baska to accommodate more than 4,000 visitors. A tourist board was founded in 1953.

Today - thanks to the beautiful, 2-km long beach, to the cultivated valley pressed as a stage against the bay by the encircling mountains, as well as to its rich heritage - Baska is a place particularly attractive to tourists. Excursions by sea and land, numerous entertainment opportunities and sports and recreational programs (tennis, golf, football, submarine sports, yachting). Along the 4-km long promenade (Lungomare) are catering establishments offering a variety of dishes and drinks; all of this is sheltered by the idyllic aspect of an old Mediterranean town. The atmosphere of the traditional public feast is offered through carnival parades (in January and February).

Numerous cultural and entertainment programs take place in the summer, the most festive being the traditional Fishermen's Day, abounding with fun and gastronomic specialities, with participation of almost all the domestic and foreign visitors. There are 14 marked tourist trails in the surroundings of Baska (to Stara Baska, Jurandvor, etc.).
